~ 18 Games Long ~

18. Omori

This game has oddly, rather circumstantially become the lowest rated game I have on backloggd. I promise that's not me being a contrarian cuz I don't think it's that bad. It's just a pretty amateurish RPG with a lot of fluff, bad jokes, and a repetitive combat system.

17. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

Super Mario 3D World is like, a decent game. I really like how it controls, but don't like the isometric perspectives or most of the overly straightened-out level design.
Bowser's Fury on the other hand is a really interesting 3D Mario, but the Bowser part sucks. It's an experimental gimmick and it ain't working!!

16. Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!

Same deal pretty much. It's like, an OKAY game, cuz Kanto has that good level design, but it's not the best way to play these games. The new stuff is unmemorable and there's a lot of weird engine jank.

15. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond

This remake is really stupid. But Sinnoh is like, literally the second best Pokemon region so it's good by default. I had lots of fun. I will never play it again sorry I'm going back to Platinum

14. Helltaker

Putting this game on this list is probably why you shouldn't rate and catalog everything you do like me. Free indie games made as engine tests aren't that good, and they don't need to be!! Godspeed to all you game devs that make stuff that's good enough.

13. New Pokémon Snap

I waited like a billion years for this sequel and what I got was pretty good. Definitely satisfied the part of my brain that likes seeing animals be cute and do cute wild things. I think it lacks the puzzle-solving edge the original has, and doesn't progress the photography much either. But it's neat!

12. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All

This is the shortest game in the series I've played yet, and while it doesn't get much time to shine, that final chapter is really something else.

11. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations

Trials and Tribulations is the first Ace Attorney with a real fleshed out overarching narrative, and it sorta sucks at it. I mean, that plot climax was great, but the pacing of the whole game sucks. If Shu polished this one out more it'd totally be one of his best, though.

10. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney

THIS GAME IS SO GOOD I LOVE IT. With an amazingly mysterious and entrancing intro chapter, followed by 2 great mysteries, and climaxing with such an interesting conclusion for all the major characters, it's impossible not to love for me.

9. Guilty Gear: Strive

Guilty Gear Strive is pretty much what every fighting game is like right now, to an almost extreme extent. I've always seen Guilty Gear as maximalist in its design, but this is is the complete opposite and it sorta works! It could definitely be less conservative, but some of the characters are an absolute blast in this engine.

8. Pikmin 3 Deluxe

I love Pikmin 3 pretty much the same amount playing it 7 years later. An incredibly pretty game with great puzzles, and strategy that seems simple at first but really ripples out. Look how cute the bugs are.....

7. Final Fantasy VII Remake

I'm sure a lot of people were initially disappointed at the idea of an 'episodic' FFVII remake, but that's what makes this game interesting. The hyper-detailed take on a relatively small aspect of FFVII breathes so much life into the world as a whole. The combat is like Kingdom Hearts! The sidequests suck. It's great

6. Deltarune [Chapters 1 & 2]

Toby Fox has gotten really good at practically everything he was already good at, and this time it's in a game with consistently strong gameplay and presentation. It's teen-y melodrama and cozy flavor text makes the game's writing completely unforgettable, we just need the story to finish first!

5. No More Heroes III

Yeah, this is No More Heroes for sure. The presentation is so incredibly bombastic this time, like the game is constantly shuffling around these aesthetics and pastiches that Suda51 likes all into a mixing pot, and then throwing the mixing pot into a bigger mixing pot. Plus, this game's simplistic hack and slashing feels sooo good this time around.

4. Metroid Dread

I had been daydreaming about a Metroid Fusion sequel for years and years, and here it is! Well, it's not exactly what I was imagining, and some of the plot is kinda fluff, but the level design is some of Metroid's sleekest and traversable yet. Some of those boss fights are also incredibly impressive, especially the final boss. This game just gets what Metroid is about, and what it can be.

3. Moon: Remix RPG Adventure

moon is a deeply beautiful game that has a lot to say in its short run-time, and it's brimming with detailed personalities and perspectives across such a big cast. moon reminds me of why I love worlds in video games, written by people who clearly love their own world.

2. The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures

TThis game definitely felt like a big reflection from Shu Takumi, like he challenged himself to make Ace Attorney again with everything he had learnt in the last 10 years. It has a shocking amount of heart in it, and might be one of the best casts in any game ever. Just an absolute joy of a story to read through from start to finish.

1. The Great Ace Attorney: Resolve

Resolve takes all the little threads built in the first game and heightens it into a plot that felt positively surreal by the end. The second chapter is kinda bad BUT OTHER THAN THAT, this is like, such an awe inspiring emotional conclusion to the duology.
